Goldfinch - Carduelis carduelis
The Goldfinch is especially busy during the summer breeding season producing two or three broods and laying five or six light blue, brown spotted eggs at each sitting. After a twelve day incubation, fledging takes about fourteen days.
It is a casual visitor to the bird table where it enjoys both seeds and nuts. Sadly near to extinction at the turn of the century; due to bird-catching and increased cultivation it has made a remarkable comeback, being nowadays associated much more with gardens and orchards rather than farmland.
