Great Tit - Parus major
Just smaller than the sparrow, the Great Tit is an agile acrobat and an entertaining, if aggressive visitor to feeders. It manages an astonishing vocabulary of calls, the most common sounding rather like "teacher-teacher-teacher".
It nests in a hole in a wall or tree and will readily use nest boxes. It lays between April and May a clutch of between eight and twelve white, red-brown spotted eggs. Incubation takes fourteen days, the young leaving after a further twenty one.
